How to Recover After Post Endovenous Laser Treatment
- Posted on: Apr 15 2019
If you have varicose veins, the last thing you will want is to walk into summer with a bunch of veins all over your legs. During your initial consultation with us, we will go over all of your treatment options including endovenous laser. During this procedure, we will cauterize your veins which causes them to shut off and then eventually slough off. To ensure that you get the best results, let’s take a closer look at a few recovery tips.
Walk It Off
Before you head home after surgery, we will have you walk around our office for 20 minutes. Then, when you go home that day, we will want you to walk around again for 20 minutes 2-3 more times total. Why? Because it helps with blood circulation. One of the best things about this treatment is that you can resume your regular activities after that, but you should try to avoid any strenuous activities right after because this can cause your veins to reopen.
Wear Your Compression Stocking
When you leave our office, your leg will be wrapped in a compression stocking to help reduce bruising, swelling, and pain. Although compression stockings aren’t the most fashion-forward thing you’ll ever wear, we encourage patients to war the compressions stockings for at least 24 hours after surgery to help get the best benefits possible.
Avoid Baths and Rigorous Activities
Although you can resume the majority of your regular activities, we tell all of our patients to avoid taking hot baths or doing any rigorous activities for 7 days after surgery. The best types of exercises you can do are things like light cycling and going on long walks; that way you get the blood pumping without over exerting yourself.
