In the world we live in, it can be hard to wait for things. If you want a cheeseburger— there’s drive thru. If you want new clothes— order them online. If you want a vacation— book one for this weekend. And although it’s nice to get instant gratification from some things, other things take a little longer. One of the  questions that people ask about spider vein treatment is why they take so any treatments to get rid of them. Let’s take a closer look at why.

What Are Spider Veins?

Before we take a closer look at why spider veins need so many treatments, let’s talk about what spider veins are and how they are caused.

Spider veins can occur on their own or they can accompany varicose veins as well— a win,win for nobody. And just like their name says, spider veins are tiny veins that resemble spider webs and they can occur all across your body— including your face, legs, arms, stomach, and other areas.

Although spider veins can be caused by heredity, they can also be caused by a variety of other factors including hormones, blood clots, and frequent standing.

Why Do They Need Multiple Treatments?

Typically, we treat spider veins with a treatment called sclerotherapy. With sclerotherapy, small doses of saline solution will be injected into your veins which weakens them and causes them to eventually collapse, but the biggest thing to note about sclerotherapy is that it takes a little time. The last thing we want to do is inject your veins with too much solution because it could cause more damage than good— so we want to take our time and do it correctly.

Because everyone’s veins are different and are different sizes, the number of treatments you will need may vary from the next patient. On average patients need about 2-5 sessions until their veins have completely collapsed.

If you have spider veins and are worried about how long treatment takes, don’t be. During your initial consultation we will be able to better estimate how many treatments you will need.eady to learn more about sclerotherapy?
